Experiencing symptoms of visual-perceptual difficulties?

One of the most common traits with disabled readers is the instability of the print as they read. The further they proceed on the page the less they can decode with ease. The reader may complain that the letters move, or that he perceives halos or spots of colour or differences in shading on the page. All of these will be invisible to the “normal” observer. The text may wave or lines may become crooked.

This instability makes comprehension difficult, decreases reading rate, contributes to brain fatigue and sabotages concentration.

What is the Irlen Method?

The Irlen Method has been used for over 25 years to identify and help people with a type of processing problem called Irlen Syndrome, formerly known as Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome (SSS).

Irlen Syndrome is not an optical problem. It is a problem with the brain's ability to process visual information. This problem tends to run in families and is not currently identified by other standardized educational or medical tests.
